Qualification Details

Class Duration:

Three Days

Class Objective:

To prepare the inspector to monitor and document pile driving operations resulting in safe foundation installation per the Contract Documents.

Subject Matter:

-Will familiarize the inspector with the terminology, equipment and process details pertaining to pile installation

-Will provide the inspector with the knowledge and understanding of Foundation Plans, Standard Specifications (Section 455), related details of the Construction Project Administration Manual

-The course describes the inspector's role from the casting of the pile to the final step of pile installation including: Types of Piles and Acceptance of Piles; Pile Driving Systems (piles, hammers, cranes, soils);Pile Installation (jetting, pre-drilling, preforming, cushions, driving stresses, bearing); QA Guidelists; Pile Acceptance; Pay Quantities (including home work and problems)

-Provides instruction on the use of the Department's electronic pile driving documentation computer program, including the transfer of data to the Department's database

Written Exam Required.

Proficiency Exam NOT Required.

Allowed up to 2.5 hours to complete the written exam.

Open Book Written Exam.

Initial Qualification Requirements:

-Pass Pile Driving Written exam
-Obtain on-site experience in which he/she has directly observed, inspected, and recorded the full installation of at least fifteen (15) driven piles under the supervision of a CTQP qualified Pile Driving Inspector (PDI).
-At least ten (10) of the piles inspected shall be driven with an open ended Diesel Hammer where the trainee must use the saximeter.TM The supervising CTQP qualified PDI shall include a note in the first page of the Pile Installation log as evidence for the required experience, indicating the name of the trainee and stating the trainee has inspected the full installation of the pile.

Trainees must confirm work experience when taking the CTQP Pile Driving Inspector Exam or report work experience through the CTQP website (IA Re-qualification Program).

 

Re-Qualification Requirements:

Pass Pile Driving Written exam.
